Medium Format Transparencies,

Color Negatives, and B&W Negatives

Alto with 645 option
Medium format film is exposed using one of two setups. 6x7 and smaller formats are imaged using a dedicated roll film option. Larger sizes are imaged using a 4x5 film option mounted with a medium format film back. The pixel size of film larger than 6x7 is therefore not a standard size (i.e. 8k or 16k) but a section of the full 4x5 camera resolution. (Refer to the chart below for the actual pixel sizes on film). Also, position of the image on the film is not exact.

You do not need to scale your images to the sizes listed in the chart, we can handle that part of the process. Files should be in 8-bit RGB or 8-bit grayscale. Color files should be in either Adobe 1998 or sRGB color space. We accept just about any format for recording.

Large Format Transparencies,
Color Negatives, and B&W Negatives

Film recorders with 35mm digital slide and 8x10 digital transparency options

These transparencies and negatives are imaged using one of our Agfa Alto film recorders at either 8k or 16k resolution. (8k and 16k are industry terms indicating how many individual lines the image contains, 8k is 8,192 pixels in the long dimension, and 16k is 16,384 pixels.)
Obviously the quality of the film depends on the quality of the image, but with a good file to start with these transparencies will compare with traditional exposures on film. Publication, Archive, Portfolio, or Insurance records are some of the typical applications. As with any of our film recording we will work with you if you have a special imaging request.
You do not need to scale your images to the sizes listed in the chart, we can handle that part of the process. Files should be in 8-bit RGB or 8-bit grayscale. Color files should be in either Adobe 1998 or sRGB color space. We accept just about any format for recording. You can check supported formats on our Format Page.

B&W Film processing tanks

Black & White 4x5 negatives are now process using a film tank of our own design. The 6 sheet and 10 sheet inversion tanks were built using a 3D printer. These give us exceptional and repeatable quality, while using a minimum of chemistry. This has been a big jump in consistant quality for our 4x5 B&W film recording.
